Small woodland plant with pure white flowers with showy yellow stamens. The light bluish green leaves, up to 8″ wide, are lobed and bleed red. Medicinal — used for toothpaste.
Needs shade and well-drained soil. Spread from seed when leaves are raked up in March. Go dormant in summer. Ants disperse seed.
Beautiful addition to shade areas. Native Americans used the senna-red juice from the leaf stems& roots as a dye.Today it's used as a plaque inhibiting agent in toothpaste and mouthwashes.
