“Biological diversity is the key to the maintenance of the world as we know it.”
~ E.O. Wilson, Biodiversity
This native fern has glossy, deep-green, lance-shaped fronds that emerge upright, then arch gently and eventually ‘lay down’ to cover the ground as they mature. This evergreen fern has ‘hairy’ brown leaf stems and is one of the first to emerge in spring.
Prefers shade, but will tolerate some sun if kept moist. Well-drained soil is best. Can adapt to a variety of conditions if proper shade requirements are met.
Looks great in a natural or formal landscape and in containers as well. Good ground cover. The leathery, glossy fronds are used in flower arrangements also.
