What roles do the environment and natural materials play in the creation of art? What are the environmental impacts of artmaking? To explore these questions, join Heather Alexis Smith, Assistant Curator at the Pulitzer, and Carol Davit, Executive Director of the Missouri Prairie Foundation, for a tour of the Pulitzer’s two exhibitions Faye HeavyShield: Confluences and The Nature of Things: Medieval Art and Ecology, 1100-1550.
You’ll learn about the historic landscapes of St. Louis and beyond, as well as plant-based materials used by artists throughout Europe and the Americas. The tour will conclude with an optional walk in the Pulitzer’s Park-Like rain garden, guided by ecologist Mike Leahy, Natural Community Ecologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation. You’ll discover many plants native to the region and present here for thousands of years.
