Typical Landscape Use
Grow on sturdy trellis work, large pole or fence. Makes a good screen. Can be quite aggressive so best placed where it will not compete with other plants.
Establishment and Care Instructions
Easy to grow. Blooms best in full sun, adapts to any soil or moisture. Prune back to a few buds in spring to keep plant in bounds.

Basic Description

Woody vine that attaches to any surface with rootlike holdfasts. Spreads quickly from roots. Hummingbirds feed on nectar produced by clusters of orange-red trumpet-shaped flowers from July-September. Brown seed pods, up to 6 in. long, form in late summer. Pinnate leaves are lustrous dark green. Host plant for the Plebeian or trumpet vine sphinx moth (Paratrea plebeja).
