Description: The garden was commissioned by Remodel Moore, the business located next to the planting, which holds company gatherings there. Formerly a vacant lot, the garden was established over time with plugs and larger plants by Down to Earth Services Kansas City. The space is a scenic escape from concrete and asphalt roadways and buildings in a very urban area.

This planting includes native shrubs, grasses, and herbaceous perennials. Labels identify the native plants. The garden is formal, with pathways, a water feature, sitting area, and fire pit used by the company during gatherings. Passersby often stop and take photos of the garden, especially the wild bergamot when it is in full bloom.

The maintenance routine starts with removal of all weeds and unwanted species, then any necessary pruning, and seed collection. Standing dead vegetation provides food or shelter to wildlife is allowed to remain, and only anything that looks very unattractive is removed when preparing in this planting for winter.

What Makes this Garden Excellent: This garden provides a green space entirely made of established native plants in a very hardscaped part of Kansas City. Many bird species have appeared at this planting as well as pollinators, and by providing food, water, and shelter, sites like this are crucial for wildlife traveling through or living in this urban area.
